The Riders of Ukok (in Russian)
Year: 2001
Town: Novosibirsk
ISBN: 5-89590-037-2
Publishing house: INFOLIO-Press

The book tells about one of the most outstanding archaeological discoveries of the past century—the "frozen" graves in the Altai Mountains. In the 1990s, an expedition guided by Natalia Polosmak explored the Ukok plateau high in the Altai Mountains and discovered nomadic elite’s burial mounds that had been preserved in ancient ice lenses. Based on the works of her well-known predecessors Rudenko and Gryaznov as well as her own field observations and research, the author gives a detailed account of the everyday life, culture, and philosophical ideas of the people who lived two thousand years ago on this alpine winter pasture. Read the introduction (in English)
